Previously On The Prom Problem: Shape Wear, Stockings and Mens Underwear
Hey guys!! Prom season is fast approaching. So today, I thought I would talk a little bit about some of the different styles of dresses that are trendy right now for Prom. I only went to my last Prom a year ago, and styles have changed SO much! So, lets discuss...
1.) Top and Bottom
This is probably the most popular dress trend for this Prom season. The two piece dress to match the crop top phase. Most of these dresses feature a high waisted, flowy skirt with a thin waist band. These skirts are often solid colors. The tops to these dresses favor the racer back tank top style. The tops usually are also a solid color and usually have some sort of rhinestone. Some of these tops feature a mesh section above the breast area and over the shoulder to mid back. I personally think that some of these dresses are absolutely stunning. If you can find the right dress in this style, I think you will certainly be on the best dressed list! However, these dresses do show a bit of skin, so you have to be careful when purchasing them. Make sure that the top is not too small. Also, some of these tops show off a lot of stomach. Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong with a little mid-drift. But if your belly button is sticking out, honestly it is just not formal or appropriate enough for Prom.
2.) Dark Blue
When I went to Prom, the most popular color was a mint green or a light blue. This year is totally different. This year, the most popular color I have seen in stores is dark blue. Any shade of dark blue, its IN. If you wear a dress that is a lighter blue, you certainly are not out of style either! Blue Blue Blue, its like the ocean. If you are someone who likes to go against trends, I would recommend purchasing a different color dress.
3.) Solid Color
I know for my Senior Prom, my dress was two colors, and several girls had printed dresses. I have certainly noticed that almost all dresses this season are solid colors. That is not to say that you can nor find or wear a printed dress. I am sure there are printed dresses out there, and if you find one you love...wear it! But for the most part, I have deff noticed a trend toward single colored dresses.
4.) Plunge Neck Line/ "V" Neck Line
Last year was the year of the sweetheart neckline. Kiss that goodbye. One of the more popular necklines this year is the plunge or "V" neck. A low-cut dress can be very flattering. However, it can also go trashy very quickly. Look at yourself in the mirror. If you have a lot of cleavage, you might want to reconsider the dress. Prom is not the place to bring out the girls. It is a formal event, and they should be put away.
5.) High Neck Line
Here we have complete opposite of the last trend. High neck lines are also very in. ESPECIALLY, for the two piece dresses and/or dresses with racer back tops. With this type of neck line, you want to make sure you don't have the opposite problem of the plunge. You do want to have some "sex appeal" as Heidi Klum calls it on Project Runway. Don't mistake this for slutty, slutty is not appropriate for a formal event. I am talking about showing bit of skin somewhere, or a bit of curves, or just overall, making sure that your body is flattered. You want to look your best.
6.) The Slitted Skirt
This year is the year of the slitted skirt. The flow skirts do not feature slits as much as the straight skirts. However, dresses without a poof certainly feature the slit. This year's slit is usually on one side and comes up pretty high. If you dress has a slit, you might want to check out my last post about shape wear for suggestions about what to wear under it so that your spanx are not showing.
7.) Silver Studding
Most dresses for Prom are glam. This years glam is mostly silver. This again, does not go for every dress, but it is deff a majority. Silver studding is something to keep in mind when shopping for accessories. Or, if you have yet to purchase your dress, but see an accessory you want, keep in mind that there is a good chance your dress will feature this type of studding.
Okay, those are all of the trends I personally have discovered for this Prom season. Did I miss one? Comment below and let me know!
