Summer 2015 Fashion and Beauty Trends

Hey guys! Today's post is all about summer fashion trends!! I did a post like this for spring, and it was supper fun, so I thought I would do another one for summer. Not much to say in an intro, so lets get into it!

1.) Two Piece Outfits
One of the things I am seeing a lot in fashion this summer is two piece sets. Most of these sets feature a crop top with either a high waisted pair of shorts or a skirt or one of those sort/shorts that look like a skirt bottoms. Most of these sets are patterned and the shirts are often short sleeves. These outfits are so versatile that they are great for many different body types. In addition, just about everyone can find one that fits their style.

2.) Triangl Bikini's
This is a trend I personally have not tried out yet. However, Triangl bikini's are everywhere...and for a good reason. The contrast between their bright colors and the black outlines creates a classy yet totally hot look that complements any summer tan. These bikini's have the right amount of coverage on the bottom and usually on the top as well. The most popular top options are the classic triangle top or the bandeau top. Popular colors include orange, dark blue, and teal blue. Although color blocked bikini's are sold, the solid colors seem to be more popular. This line of swim wear can be rather expensive, so many cheaper brands have created knock off options. I think these bikini's look very flattering on the right body type, although their bottoms could be worn by just about anyone.

3.) Big Armholes
Next up is the big armhole trend. So many shirts are featuring extra large arm holes this summer. If you are headed for the beach or the pool, this is perfect so that you can wear your swim wear underneath and it will peek out the sides of the shirt. However, this style can be tricky if you are wearing a normal bra. These shirts require a bralette, which can be a tricky item to find for a girl with a larger chest (see my previous post called Bralettes For Busty Girls if that is you).

4.) Bralettes
This trend goes hand in hand with the last one. Blares are essential under those shirts with the big arm holes. In the heat of the summer, they can also be worn alone as tops to keep you cool. The great thing about bralettes is that you do not need to wear a bra under them. In the summer time in the heat, this is such a good idea. Personally, I prefer to wear a bralette under a summer shirt that a bra and a bandeau because it is less layers of clothing...and who wants layers in the summer? Like I said in the last section, these can be hard to find for busty girls as they are more often than not made with little support. Again, if that is you, check out my Bralettes For Busty Girls post.

5.) Flowy Patterned Shorts/Pants
Go into any store and you will find this trend. Flow, patterned pants and shorts. These bottoms are usually high waisted and feature a draw string. They are lose fitting and typically have a white, summery base color. Patterns tend to be tribally, often blue, red or black. These shorts and pants are usually shown with a plain scoop neck solid colored t-shirt. This t-shirt is most often white. These pants are great because they are comfortable! You can look cute without really trying in these shorts and that is always a plus! I find that this style of pant usually highlights the booty, which we all know is in style right now. For a short girl, the pants are sometimes too long, but it is not impossible to find ones that are the right length. Most of the pants have a wide bottom, although some of them do have elastic at the ankles. The shorts are lose fitting and sometimes have lace at the bottom, or little pom poms. These types of bottoms fit perfectly into the bohemian girl's wardrobe. They also make great music festival wear!

6.) Crop Tops
Along with high waisted pants and shorts comes the crop top. This is not a new trend this summer. Crop tops have been taking over the mid 20teens and are not going anywhere.

7.) Shirt Dresses
On the complete opposite side of the scale, is the shirt dress. Shirt dresses are everywhere. They are the perfect option for the girl who loves to wear a cute shirt...but hates pants. I have seen striped baggie t-shirt ones, ones that look like long polo shirts, ones that look like extra long ribbed tank tops,  ones that are high-low, and many more. These dresses come in a variety of styles, therefore, just about everyone can find one that they like. Shirt Dresses are an excellent option if you are running late, going to the beach or just having a lazy day. They also come in handy on supper hot days.

8.) Sequin Shirts and Jean Jackets
This is an interesting trend, which I personally love. Going on a casual date night or a girls night out? This is a perfect option. Sequined tank tops are the perfect place to start. They dress up a look without making it too dressy and can be paired with any pair of jean shorts. Adding a jean jacket will make it even more casual and keep you warm if it is going to get a bit chilly at night. Personally, this is one of my favorite trends this summer and I absolutely love it! What is fabulous about this trend is that it is so customizable. Any fancy tank style you want can go with any style of jean jacket. The same goal is achieved, but you can maintain your own unique style while staying on trend.

9.) One Piece Bathing Suites
This is an interesting trend as well. Teenagers and young adults are notorious for loving the bikini. However, this year, other styles of bathing suites are being purchased. The one piece that is basically a two piece with a strip down the center is very popular. This will give you tan lines, but not as much as a full one piece. This suite is a great option for someone who is self conscious about their stomach area. There are so many variations of this suite out there, and honestly, they are all really cute. The cloth one piece is also out there very much as well. In addition, one pieces with plunge necklines and cut outs are making an appearance on the beach this summer. One pieces are cool because they have more fabric thank bikini's, so there is more surface area for design. Although one pieces are more on trend than they have been in the recent decade and a half, there are still plenty of people rocking the bikini!

10.) Strappy Sandals
These sandals do not stop at the foot. The straps come all the way up to mid calf. Many of these shoes are tan in color and zip up the back. These sandals spice up any outfit, and despite their often lack of color, are usually a statement piece.

Okay, that is it for my summer trend post! Did I miss a trend that you are really loving this summer? Let me know in the comments below!!
xoxo

Project Runway 10-15-15 Recap Review

Previously on Project Runway: The designers gave members of the Project Runway crew a makeover. Hey guys! Welcome to this week's Project Runway Recap Review! We are getting closer and closer to fashion week each episode and the competition is getting tight. At this point, any of the designers could go home. Last week was packed with drama...but...its a new week, and a fresh slate, so lets get started. Challenge: The five remaining designers will make an outfit inspired by the New York City bridges (Queensborough, Brooklyn, Manhattan). The designers were assigned a bridge from the black bag of doom. Each designer created a textile with a 3-D printer that they had to incorporate into their garment. This is an Avant Garde challenge. Thoughts In The Workroom:  I'm not so sure what I think about 3-D printers...comment down below and let me know what you think about them (in general, not just in fashion). Candice made a good choice not using black again this week. Designers wh...

Is The Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment Worth the Hype?

Hey Fashionista's! Today we are going to talk all about Hailey Bieber's Rhode Skincare line. This is not sponsored, I just really wanted to talk about these products. This semester in my public speaking class, I taught a unit all about persuasive speaking. My goal was to make the topic of persuasive speaking more relatable by showing how prevalent it is in our modern world. What was the product I brought in to show the power of persuasive speaking in the "influencer era"? You bet it was the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment. If you are a longtime reader, you know I rarely talk about skin care. Actually, I have probably never talked about skin care. That's because I don't really know what to say. I don't ever buy the trendy products because I am allergic to so many of them and if not, they make me break out. BUT Hailey Bieber got me- talk about effective persuasive speaking. I watched a few videos on YouTube of her using the products and talking about their ing...

Best Sustainable Brands of 2023

Hey Fashionistas! Recently, I have been trying to make better fashion/beauty choices for the environment so I thought I would share some of my favorites with you. None of this is sponsored (although, if you're one of the brands I mentioned- hi and please feel free to reach out). Garnier: I wanted to start out with Garnier because they are not only an environmentally friendly brand but they are also my favorite beauty brand of all time. Garnier is a holy grail for me. I discovered this brand when they were featured on Project Runway many years ago and they completely changed my confidence. I use so many of their products on my hair: Mouse, Curl Cream, Hair Spray, Hair Gel, Shampoo, Conditioner, Conditioning Masks, etc.  Recently, I have switched from the traditional shampoo bottle to the shampoo bar and I am so glad that I did. I still get that Garnier glow to my hair while using less unnecessary plastics. Other Garner Fructis shampoo and conditioner bottles are made partly fr...
