Sorry Im a little late with this week's review...I had to think on this one for a while before I decided what I was going to say. Even though you have probably seen the episode by now, I will try my best not to give away anything just in case you are still behind. Oh and just a little reminder, what I say below are totaly my opinions, they are not necessiarly what they judges thought. So without any more intro, lets dive on in.
Challenges: The designers were sent to Paris where they got to choose from fabrics in a fancy design house and they were so post to make Couture dresses like the ones they got to see up close in a fashion show.
Uli: I actually disagree with the judges on this dress. I really liked it. Was it couture? Maybe not of the most expensive kind, but it was certainly better than some of the other dresses on the runway and was very Uli. Her gown has a gold flowery panel going down the back and the same material made up the Brest area and the mid section. On the top and on the sides, she had a skin tone mesh and on the bottom, she has a tan lining with a black overlay. I thought that this dress was very flattering. I am a big fan of skin tone anything and I also love a good mesh spot in a dress. I think that tan mesh is a genius way of showing a lot of skin yet leaving everything a mystery. The judges critiqued a black stripe that she placed through the middle of the black panel, but honestly, I didn't really see anything major wrong with it. The judges also were not a fan of the tan lining in the skirt. All in all, I think that this was a really solid dress for Uli and I wish that the judges had given her just a tad bit more credit for it.
Emilo: Emilo had this blood red fabric with different red shade blotches all over it. From the other side of the TV, I thought the color was a bit harsh. With that said, it was very shinny and I could deff see where it may have been really pretty up close....and it must have been....because they judges really praised him for his fabric choice. They also praised this dress in general. Ive got to say, I was disappointed in this dress just because Emilo can really do couture at its finest and I don't think that this measured up to the standard of the couture he showed on his season. The dress was very structural and had long sleeves and a huge structured skirt. The dress was very well made which was nice to see because last week Emilo's dress was lacking in the craftsmanship department. I don't think that this is the worst thing he has every made (far far from it) but I think that he could have done better. And I think that the judges over scored it a tad.
Anthony Ryan: Im a sucker for black lace, no doubt. But, I felt like this showed off a bit too much body. Now okay, I know that this is runway fashion so that is okay but I just am not a fan of showing it all off at once, just my personal opinion. I also think the judges over scored this one just because I think that there are other lace dresses like this out there. I do applaud the craftsmanship here because it was really well made. The dress was long selves with a turtle neck collar and a long flowy skirt. Anthony Ryan is the master of flattering clothing and this really did flatter the girl's body. There were absolutely some high points to this dress, but as someone who loves couture, I just wish it was a bit more original.
Joshua: Like I said with Uli's dress, I do not think that the judges gave this one enough credit. The top was long sleeve black lace with white detailing and the bottom was a bright floral print. This dress reminded me of the Wizard of Oz (and that a complement...I have a slight Wizard of Oz obsession). I don't know why, but the colors in the skirt just screamed munchkin land to me. Anyway, I liked that Josh ventured into mixing patterns because this is the semi-final and risks are a mush. The judges thought that a different floral print on the bottom would have been better, but I have to disagree with that. My critique on Josh's dress is that I think it was a little big in the waist. It really would have been a knock out if it hugged the model's body more on top and then bam! a long flowy bottom. That aside, I really really liked this look. I deff have not seen this in stores, which to me is an essential when doing a couture challenge. Couture is not something that can be picked up in just any old store, and neither is this dress. Deff a job well done my my favorite designer!
Of course it would NOT be the Project Runway Semi Final without a little twist. All four of these designers could have gone to the finals in the eyes of the judges, but they saved them all last week, so they could not save them again. The bottom two designers had one hour to remake their dress right there on the runway to compete for the final spot.
I am not going to say who they were or review their dresses because that would spoil things. BUT you should absolutely go check it out on lifetime's website!!! What I will say about the re-do dresses, was that both of them looked great and both of the designers in the bottom could have competed in the final. Personally, I feel like the judges knew from the start who they wanted in the final and who they wanted to win; the final weeks here have just been grooming the contestants of their choices into the spots. That's just my opinion from what I saw and what I liked so don't go quoting me on that but its just how I feel about the wind down of this show.
Overall, I think that Project Runway All Stars 2 was a success. With that said, season 1 of All Stars always gave credit where credit was do...and I think that this season, sometimes things were over looked and somethings were passed through where they should not have been
Phew, that was a long review! lol. Anyway, I hope you all have had as much fun watching this season as I have and I hope you have had as much fun reading my reviews as I have had writing them. SO do NOT miss the FINAl of Project Runway All Stars 2 Thursday night on Liftetime Network!!
