4-18-13 Project Runway Season 11 Semi Final Review!!!

Hey Guys! I just want to start by apologizing for my recent absence and missing of a few reviews. I am up to date on the show but it was the end of the Marking Period at school and I had soooo much work I just was not able to sit down and write for you guys. But, a new marking period has started and I am all freed up! As per usual, this review will not contain any spoilers and is totally my opinions. With that said, lets get on into this weeks review. This week, the final four designers competed for three places in the finals.

Challenge: This week, the designers presented three pieces from their collections in hopes to impress the judges and move on to show in NY fashion week.

Teams: The designers got a bit of time to do some last Minuit work on the three garments that they were going to show and were given helpers.

Patricia (with help from Layanna): I am starting with Patricia today because of her striking home visit. She really is Native American! Tim Gunn was absolutely floored by her home and her studio (and rightfully he should have been!!) Her Native American inspiration was very well reflected in her collection. Patricia chose to show a blue dress with a Native American head dress, a horse hair shall, and a feather inspired dress with a scarf. Now I am going to admit, a few months ago, when pictures were anonymously released of the designers collections from fashion week I took a peek at them. When I saw Patricia's head piece, I thought Seussical. Nina, came to the same conclusion as I did....."Oh the thinks you can think!". However, once she explained what it was, it had a new significance to me. I thought that it was cool that she brought in something directly from her culture and it is deff different. I applaud her for that. However, the garment that went with it looked like it came out of the unconventional challenge. The blue fabric pretty but the large sequins that she used looked like tin foil. I was not a fan. She used them again on her other dress which was a baby doll style with a print inspired by a feather. To me, this looked like a last second put together. The scarf was pretty but it was too much with the dress. To me, this was her weakest look. Her strongest look, was a cape with horse hair on it. I LOVED this cape! It was completely original, both runway and wearable, impeccably made and stunning!!!  I was hoping that all three of her pieces were going to be as WOW as the cape, but not this time.

Daniel (with help from Samantha): Heidi could have not been more right about the Snooze Boys. I was surprised at what Daniel chose to send down the runway. From the glimpse of his stuff in the work room, it looked like he had some fabulous things going on. However, he did not show any of them. His long black dress had two problems for me. The first being that it can be found in any department store. The second being holly side boobs!! Another one of his looks focused on a knitted black turtle neck. This garment was well made and had a belt. I just feel like this is too safe and boring from this time in the competition. This is the time to lay it all out on the runway. Black everyday clothing just is not enough. He also had a pair of pants with stingray detailing. Honestly, you could not see the detailing at all from the other side of the TV.I do not think that Daniel took the fact that this is a TV show into consideration. The viewers keep the show going and if they are bored by a black collection with TV invisible detailing, they will click away. That is clearly not the goal. Also, his main inspiration was sting ray, and that was a great Idea...he just did not develop the story behind the sting ray well enough for the collection to really be cohesive. After all, making it all black does not make it a collection. Daniel just did not bring it this week to me.

Stanley (with help from Richard): Stanley was another of the Snooze Boys, and snoozed I did. I was shocked at the amount of work he did not do over the four months!! I was surprised because Stanley was such a front runner this season and his work always appeared to look good!! But then again, you never know how much is someones own work with teams....however,  Four months is plenty of time for any seasoned designer to make twelve looks. To me, it looked as if he took a vacation from designing and made his collection two weeks before returning to NY. His gold dress with the black beaded neck line was matronly. It was a weird length and it was not at all figure flattering. He made a gorgeous pattern out of studs (and you know how I love studs!) but the way he used it was not gorgeous. His suit was a tad too long and I did not think that it went well with the top (not to mention the jacket!). Stanley also made an untaylored leather jacket which I wanted to like but something just seemed off about it to me. If he was going for old Hollywood glamour, he really needs to take another look at Marylin Monroe!! Stanley's collection had no skin showing and in today's world, no skin is usually a no-go. His dress reminded me of the Victorian era princess dresses. all he needed was a hoop skirt and a corset underneath and she would be ready to take the 1600's English thrown!!

Michelle (with help from Amanda): Michelle's collection was by far my favorite!! She really brought it home!! I love her high fashion punk style!! She made a very well constructed jacket with bags detachable all over it. I disagree with the judges on her eliminating one of the bags. I LOVED it the way that it was!!! I have never seen anything like it! Another one of her looks was a breast plate with a detachable compass and black thy pads. I loved this look as well. It was like the Hunger Games hits the runway!! (And I love that book/movie and all of it's fashion!) I really liked this look as it was again, something that I really had not seen before. What makes Michelle's collection so special is that is is based off of the story of a lone wolf which is a metaphor of her in the competition. This was a captivating, mysterious and very strong point of reference for her collection. She really did carry it out in her looks, especially in her patterned sweater. Her third look was a over sized short sleeve knitted sweater with a wolf pattern that she created with a long sleeve shirt underneath. Another piece that I loved of hers was her white motorcycle pants with the knee pads! Her whole collection was well made and thought out. Unlike the others, she really experimented with different pieces and I applaud her for that. The judges critiqued her styling...but honestly...I thought that the messy look added a little something to the collection. If I had to pick a winner right now, it would be Michelle!

I am SOOOOOOOOO excited for next weeks final!!! I wish the best of luck to all the designers and cant wait to see the winner!! If you have not seen this week's two hour episode, head on over to lifetime's website and check it out!!

Project Runway 10-15-15 Recap Review

Previously on Project Runway: The designers gave members of the Project Runway crew a makeover. Hey guys! Welcome to this week's Project Runway Recap Review! We are getting closer and closer to fashion week each episode and the competition is getting tight. At this point, any of the designers could go home. Last week was packed with drama...but...its a new week, and a fresh slate, so lets get started. Challenge: The five remaining designers will make an outfit inspired by the New York City bridges (Queensborough, Brooklyn, Manhattan). The designers were assigned a bridge from the black bag of doom. Each designer created a textile with a 3-D printer that they had to incorporate into their garment. This is an Avant Garde challenge. Thoughts In The Workroom:  I'm not so sure what I think about 3-D printers...comment down below and let me know what you think about them (in general, not just in fashion). Candice made a good choice not using black again this week. Designers wh...

The Prom Problem: Underwear (Clean)

Previously on the Prom Problem:  I talked about Bra's for Prom. All the special types that may be the best option for your dress. This Week: I thought that it would only be natural to talk about Underwear next. Underwear lines plague everyone at some point but prom is the last place that you want them to show up.Today we will be solving those nasty underwear lines.  I know that everyone has different opinions about sharing underwear secrets online because it is private I guess for some people, but honestly, I think that it is okay as long as your not doing anything inappropriate. I am just saying this to let you guys know that this post is totally clean so if your thinking "oh my gosh what is she going to show us?" Don't worry about it...you can keep reading. On that note, lets take a look at a few solutions to The Underwear Problem. Solution 1: Thongs I am going to talk about thongs first because I think that they are the most common solution for panty lines. ...

Special Post- Inner Beauty- The NJ Sharing Network

Hey guys! I have always intended for this blog to be totally dedicated to beauty and fashion, however, this post is going to be a bit different. Well, I mean, it does kind of fit because all the beauty on the outside does not matter if you are not a beautiful person on the inside (which I am sure that all of you are). Recently, my little sister (Linda) had a kidney transplant. She received her new kidney from an organization called the NJ Sharing Network. The NJ Sharing Network is an organization which connects donor families with recipients. I wanted to help give back to the organization that gave my little sister so much...so I created a team for their annual 5K run. My team is called Linda's Home Team. Last year, my team raised around $3000 dollars for the NJ Sharing Network. This year, we are hoping to surpass that. It would mean the world to me if you guys would follow the link below to my page and give a donation to my team. Every penny counts. I love all of my re...
