The Prom Problem: Life Hacks for Prom

Hey guys! I am super excited to be talking to you about some "life hacks" with regards to Prom. I am no expert, these are just some little things that I learned through experience that I thought I would share with you to make the experience go smoother. So, lets get into it!

1. Sew Yourself In
Bra's and fancy dresses have a love hate relationship. Obviously, you need to wear one...but they sometime stick out in all the wrong places at all the wrong times. Last year, I had a one shoulder, tight dress. There was no build in bra, and to my knowledge, one strap bra's do not exist (but if they do PLEASE send me a link to them! lol). I solved this problem by wearing a strapless bra with one strap. But that did not really solve the problem, because you could see the strap. Most dresses have a lining in them. What I did, was sew the strap down to the lining of the dress. I only used one or two stitches, but it kept the strap from peeking out, and you could not see the stitches either because it was only attached to the lining. Make sure that if you are sewing anything down, that you are not sewing the dress shut...you should still be able to take the dress off to use the rest room if you need to. I highly suggest wearing a strapless bra with straps if you are going to do the sewing trick because if you do need to take the dress off for some reason, the straps can detach from the bra but stay in place and hidden in the dress.

2. Test Run Your Lashes
If you are wearing false lashes for the first time, purchase a few pairs ahead of time, practice putting them on and figure out which pair looks the most natural on you. False lashes are a bit tricky to put on and they can look pretty bad if not applied correctly. You want them to blend with your natural lashes, which means you have to get them on in the right spot, or else they look like fake lashes. If you do not know what size or brand lash is going to look best on you, try some out ahead of time. You do not want to be stuck with bad lashes on the day of Prom. You also do not want to put them on for the first time the day of Prom and have a disaster.

3. Put Your Lip Color In Your Bag As Soon As You Apply It
Yes, this seems obvious, but its just a little reminder. I know tones of girls who forgot their lip color the day of prom. As soon as you put it on, put it in your purse. I found myself needing to reapply just from talking to my friends let alone eating. I personally did not wear a bold lip, so it was not a big deal if it came off a bit. However, if you are wearing a bold lip and it ties together your look, your gonna wana make sure your have the product to reapply.

4. Pick Out Your Undergarments Ahead of Time
If your date is early, and you are not dressed yet, you do not want to be rummaging through your underwear to find something to throw on just to get downstairs. Chances are, this will not get you in what will help you look your best. Know what shape wear you are going to wear. Pick out your bra, and undies etc. Knowing whats going on underneath will make the getting dressed process go so much quicker. In addition, it will ensure that what you want to wear is not in the wash the day of Prom and unavailable.

5. Your Gonna Take Off Your Shoes
Six inch heels are not comfortable to wear all night. If you are not much of a dancer, you might keep your shoes on a bit longer, but when everyone takes them off, you probably will too. I personally love to dance and me and my friends shed our shoes pretty quickly. This means that you have to be conscious of the fact that your dress might drag a bit on the floor. You get your dress altered wit the shoes on so it looks good with the shoes. Since the shoes give you height, the dress that did not reach the floor with shoes now does. Just keep and eye out for the bottom of your dress on the dance floor so that it does not rip. Prom is supposed to be fun, the last thing you need to do is worry about a riped dress.

6. Take Off Your Flowers When They Wilt
I know that some Proms use bouquets instead of corsages, but I am just talking about the corsages for now. I know everyone wants to wear their flowers all night long, and if you can, go for it. But if they are bugging you, just take them off. It is not insulting anyone or anything and plenty of other people will do it to. I absolutely loved my flowers for both of my Prom's and thought that they were just stunning. For my Junior Prom, I was able to keep my flowers on all night, they did not wilt, they were not uncomfortable and no problem. However, for Senior Prom, my corsage has some decorative pins holding the flowers together, and when the flowers wilted a bit, the pins stabbed me in the wrist. I took it off. If that happens to you, its is okay you can not predict the behavior of a flower. Just shake it off and keep going. Like I was saying in the last paragraph, Prom is supposed to be fun. There are so many beauty mishaps that can happened that can ruin the night if you let them. So don't let them.

7. Keep Bobby Pins and Hair Ties in Your Purse
Even if they are not in your hair, have them with you. One, because you might get hot and feel like putting your hair up, but that is not the main reason. When I was younger, I was at a Bat Mitzvah and my strap to my dress broke. I was going straight from the party to a dance show, so I had plenty of hair supplies with me. One of my friends used boy pins and hair ties to attach the strap back to my dress so that it did not fall down. When I tell you it worked, it worked. I did not get the dress fixed for months, and when I tell you it hung on a hanger from that contraption for months, I mean months. Since then, I always have bobby pins and hair ties in my bag just in case I need them or a friend does.

8. Have Fun
Seriously. Prom comes with drama, Prom comes with fashion malfunctions. Just ignore it and have a good time. If your a Junior, you deserve a night of fun, I know your working so hard this year. If your a Senior, enjoy it, because it is one of the last times you and your class are all going to be together before the five year reunion. Those last five months go by faster than you think, cherish every moment.

Stay tuned for more of The Prom Problem!
xoxo

Project Runway 10-15-15 Recap Review

Previously on Project Runway: The designers gave members of the Project Runway crew a makeover. Hey guys! Welcome to this week's Project Runway Recap Review! We are getting closer and closer to fashion week each episode and the competition is getting tight. At this point, any of the designers could go home. Last week was packed with drama...but...its a new week, and a fresh slate, so lets get started. Challenge: The five remaining designers will make an outfit inspired by the New York City bridges (Queensborough, Brooklyn, Manhattan). The designers were assigned a bridge from the black bag of doom. Each designer created a textile with a 3-D printer that they had to incorporate into their garment. This is an Avant Garde challenge. Thoughts In The Workroom:  I'm not so sure what I think about 3-D printers...comment down below and let me know what you think about them (in general, not just in fashion). Candice made a good choice not using black again this week. Designers wh...

The Prom Problem: Underwear (Clean)

Previously on the Prom Problem:  I talked about Bra's for Prom. All the special types that may be the best option for your dress. This Week: I thought that it would only be natural to talk about Underwear next. Underwear lines plague everyone at some point but prom is the last place that you want them to show up.Today we will be solving those nasty underwear lines.  I know that everyone has different opinions about sharing underwear secrets online because it is private I guess for some people, but honestly, I think that it is okay as long as your not doing anything inappropriate. I am just saying this to let you guys know that this post is totally clean so if your thinking "oh my gosh what is she going to show us?" Don't worry about it...you can keep reading. On that note, lets take a look at a few solutions to The Underwear Problem. Solution 1: Thongs I am going to talk about thongs first because I think that they are the most common solution for panty lines. ...

Special Post- Inner Beauty- The NJ Sharing Network

Hey guys! I have always intended for this blog to be totally dedicated to beauty and fashion, however, this post is going to be a bit different. Well, I mean, it does kind of fit because all the beauty on the outside does not matter if you are not a beautiful person on the inside (which I am sure that all of you are). Recently, my little sister (Linda) had a kidney transplant. She received her new kidney from an organization called the NJ Sharing Network. The NJ Sharing Network is an organization which connects donor families with recipients. I wanted to help give back to the organization that gave my little sister so much...so I created a team for their annual 5K run. My team is called Linda's Home Team. Last year, my team raised around $3000 dollars for the NJ Sharing Network. This year, we are hoping to surpass that. It would mean the world to me if you guys would follow the link below to my page and give a donation to my team. Every penny counts. I love all of my re...
