Previously on Get Fit For Summer: The Best Dieting/Fitness APPS For Your Phone
Hey guys! Dieting alone will not make you lose weight or help you get toned. The key to weight loss and toning your body is exercise. When one thinks about getting fit and working out, they think of the gym. Having the motivation to get up and drive to the gym is one of the hardest parts of starting a weight loss or fitness journey. In addition, driving to and from the gym adds time onto the workout event...and gym memberships can cost a bit of money. Going to the gym is absolutely worth is and is great if it fits into your lifestyle. However, if the gym is not an option for you, that does not mean losing weight and getting fit is not as option as well. Today's post is all about the different things you can do to help you lose weight and/or get fit without even leaving your bedroom.
1.) Fitness DVD's
The first thing you can do is purchase a collection of fitness DVD's. They will cost much less than gym membership, and you can get many of the same fitness benefits from them. The best part about fitness DVD's is that they come in a huge variety of workouts. Therefore, everyone can find one that they like. In addition, it allows you to switch up the type of workout you are doing to keep you motivated. My personal favorites are the Dancing With The Stars workout DVD's. These videos teach you the different styles of ballroom dancing. You do not need a partner, all you need is the video and a TV. Dancing With The Stars is notorious for helping contestants lose weight. Now you can join in the dun too. If you took dance lessons as a kid, or you just like to dance or have always wanted to learn, these videos are a great option for you. If dancing is not your thing, you can always purchase the more traditional style workouts such as P90x. These high intensity videos each target different areas of the body and will absolutely get you into shape. Another video route to take is yoga DVD's. Yoga had become an increasingly popular way to get in shape. If you are interested in yoga, but can not commit to going to a class, purchasing an at home video may be a great option for you.
2.) YouTubers
If you do not want to purchase a workout DVD, you can always find different workouts on YouTube. There are many fitness guru's online ready to help you through your fitness transformation. What is great about YouTubers, is that a lot of them who focus on fitness also focus on healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Watching their videos not only be a workout route for you, but it can also be an avenue for you to gather new information on how to lead a healthier lifestyle. One of my favorite fitness YouTubers is Sarafit. Sara's channel features both follow along workouts and tips for a healthier lifestyle. Her hit workouts really get your body moving, and she is very educated on healthy eating. I personally love to watch her videos because she is very entertaining, and very knowledgeable. Another great YouTube channel for fitness is blogilates. Casey Ho is such an upbeat, bubbly personality that you can not help but smile while following along with her videos. She is always very encouraging, and again, really knows her stuff. Casey provides a tone of different follow along workout videos that target different areas of the body. She also puts together different series that you can follow to achieve your goal. One of the things I find brilliant about her channel, is that she creates a monthly fitness calendar that details which videos you should do each day. You will receive this calendar if you sign up for her emails. Following this calendar is great for those of you just starting out your fitness journey. It is also a great way to stay motivated.
3.) Fitness APPS
I am not going to say much here because I did a whole post about this, but there are a tone of apps out there that you can download for free to supplement your fitness journey. If you are curious, check out my post in the Get Fit For Summer series called The Best Diet/Fitness APPS For Your Phone!
4.) Pintrest Challenges
Pintest has a tone of workout challenges you can do in your very own room. If you reach for monthly abb workouts or monthly leg workouts, you will get a tone of pictures detailing how many reps of a workout you should do each day for the entire month. For example; day 1 will say 10 crunches, 5 squats. Day 2 will say 15 crunches 10 squats Etc. This past fall, I completed the 30 Day Ab&Squat Challenge that I found on Pintrest, and I really did see results. At the end of the month, the exercises we not longer too difficult and I felt much stronger and looked it too. If that workout is not for you, there are plenty of other challenges and workout out schedules that you can find on Pintrest. Another great thing about Pintrest is that is has all the healthy eating recipes you can possibly need, which is great if you are starting out on a quest for a healthier lifestyle.
5.) TV Word Workout
I don't really know the proper name for this workout. But here is how it works. First you pick an exercises, lets say jumping jacks. Then you watch your favorite TV show, lets say Pretty Little Liars. Now pick a word that is said often in the TV shows, lets say Alison. Now pick a number, lets say 10. Here comes the fun part. All you have to do is watch TV. Yes, watch TV. In this case, I would be watching Pretty Little Liars, and every time someone said Alison or Ali, I would do 10 jumping jacks. To make this harder and more rigorous, pick a few exercises and a few key words. Sticking with the Pretty Little Liars theme, lets use all the names of the girls. Spencer is sit-ups, Aria is push-ups, Hanna is crunches, Emily is leg lifts, and Alison is jumping jacks. Each time the name of the girl is said, I would to 10 of whatever exercises I assigned to the girl. By the end of the TV show, you have gotten your body moving and strengthened, and all you did was watch TV.
Combining these ideas, or using any of them alone, will help you lose weight to get fit (or both!) without even having to leave your bedroom. No trip to the gym needed, and very little money spent. I hope this is helpful, and I will talk to you guys soon!
