The Prom Problem: Get Ready For Special Needs Prom With My Sister

Previously on The Prom Problem: Hair Tutorial

Hey guys! My Prom days are over, but I still wanted to do a get ready with me post to close out the series for this year. This year, my little sister will be attending her very first Prom, so I thought I would do a get ready with her instead. My sister attends a special needs school. She was a late walker and types to communicate. Despite her physical limitations, she is cognitively normal. Actually, she is brilliant. I think it is so amazing that her school has a Prom so that the kids get to experience the event. I know she is excited! So lets get ready!

Girl Stuff
The first thing my sister did when she returned from school on the day of Prom was take a shower, brush her teeth, deodorant, the typical hygiene stuff. This step is not very interesting, and I do not have much to say here, but it's still important.

Hair
My sister wears her hair either in a pony tail or pig tails every day because she does not like to wear her hair down. For Prom, we decided to go with one pony tail to keep her comfortable. We added a bit of hairspray for frizz control and to ensure that it held all night.

Makeup
For makeup, I applied a light purple pink shade from my Revlon Color Stay pallet to her lid. I chose this shade  because it has primer built in so that eliminated a step in the makeup process. I then added a tan shade into her crease to define her eyes a bit more. My sister does not wear eyeliner or mascara, so I skipped that. My sister does not have sparse brows, so I just applied a bit of the Maybelline Brow Drama to keep them in place. Next I used an Almay bronzer to contour her cheek bones. Unfortunately, this bronzer has been discontinued. This bronzer was a golden color with a bit of shimmer. I am sure there are dupes for it out there. For blush, I applied a Neutrogena highlighter blush. This blush is a light pink color with a highlight tone to it. Once again, this product is great because it is a two in one step.

Nails
My sister does not generally wear nail polish, but for the special occasion, she did. My sister's favorite color is green, and she picked a green color polish that matched her handbag. My sister's school actually gave all of the girls the opportunity to bring in polish and have their nails done the day of Prom at school, so she got them manicured there.

Shoes
My sister only wears sneakers. Sneakers are the most comfortable for her and they give her the most support. We purchased a pair of spring weight sneakers that matched her dress for the event.

Pocketbook
My sister's favorite store is Target, and like I said, her favorite color is green. My mom and I took her to Target and she picked out a green pocketbook to complement her dress.

Corsage
My sister does not like to wear things around her wrist. But my mom and I still thought she should have a corsage in some way. We decided to purchase some fresh flowers and tie them around her pony tail. This way, she still had a corsage and she did not have to wear it around her wrist.

The Dress!
Okay this is always every one's favorite part. My sister's dress is a knee length, one piece, gray dress. The skirt is tool and the top is a wide strap, tank top styled, crocheted material. She went with a short dress instead of they typical floor length dress because she is short and a shorter dress looked better on her. I do not think her dress could be a better fit. She looks amazing! (Picture Below).

That about wraps this series for this year! I hope you all enjoyed it and had the time of your lives at Prom!

Best Fit: How to Start Your Fitness Journey

"Best Fit" Let's start our fitness journey! Incorporating fitness into your daily life is difficult. Life is full of wonderful things to do and it can be hard to prioritize being healthy. Today we are going to jump right in and start incorporating fitness into our daily lives.  *Disclaimer: I am neither a fitness expert nor a doctor. I am here to build a community, not give professional advise. Before beginning your fitness journey, check with your medical professionals to make sure you are physically healthy enough to complete any activities suggested. 1. Pick a time of day for your workout: Picking a time of day is a great first step in starting a healthier lifestyle. Putting it on your calendar (maybe even setting up a reminder notice) will help you hold yourself accountable. It will also remind you that you have set aside time that day to go to the gym so you do not double book yourself.  Personally, I prefer to work out in the late afternoon/ea

Project Runway 10-15-15 Recap Review

Previously on Project Runway: The designers gave members of the Project Runway crew a makeover. Hey guys! Welcome to this week's Project Runway Recap Review! We are getting closer and closer to fashion week each episode and the competition is getting tight. At this point, any of the designers could go home. Last week was packed with drama...but...its a new week, and a fresh slate, so lets get started. Challenge: The five remaining designers will make an outfit inspired by the New York City bridges (Queensborough, Brooklyn, Manhattan). The designers were assigned a bridge from the black bag of doom. Each designer created a textile with a 3-D printer that they had to incorporate into their garment. This is an Avant Garde challenge. Thoughts In The Workroom:  I'm not so sure what I think about 3-D printers...comment down below and let me know what you think about them (in general, not just in fashion). Candice made a good choice not using black again this week. Designers who
